It’s been maybe a decade since I’ve played any of the games, but Ecco the Dolphin dreams are a recurring genre for me. Zsolt Balog’s incredible pixelwork is just seared that deeply into my brain.

They tend to have ominous crystal spires and mazes of choking weeds and they’re unsettling and I cherish them so much.

The shading is so perfectly done and the images are so dynamic, appearing to breathe and pulsate in even the smallest parts of the design. And who doesn’t get a thrill from robot crabs, reanimated brain robots, and giant, tamed eel monsters? Metal Slug: you were one of the best, babe.

Oh yeah, I’d say they’re actually some of the most disturbing mutants I’ve seen in anything. They’re not a “cool” monster mutant anyone would want to be, nor are they completely inhuman tentacle blobs or something, so they hit an uncanny middle ground where they just seem unbelievably sad and pitiful.
The way they result from a psychedelic drug and don’t care (or even know either way) what they are now is the scariest part, like the real horror of them is that they’re people who felt so hopeless and had so little else to care about that they’re fine like this.
I wish I could stand the actual game/story of LISA because the aesthetics are extremely my thing, but the writing is so aggressively cynical I just can’t be bothered to care what happens to any of the characters or the world at large
Weaker than the other two, but oh well. I liked the idea of doing something with Undyne and Monster Kid and maybe this idea was fine but i dont think i executed it too well. And monster kid looking demonic came from me making undyne first and then Monster Kid being too small as a result.
